Thanks, I enjoy the metal and bodywork. I normally just plod along and enjoy my time, trying to get this last bit of welding done quickly so the painting can start.

Bit more progress tonight. Should be nice and strong, using 2mm plate as it was handy. Unfortunately no one has the right hand side cowl so I will need to patch it up as well.

Hi Mitch,

Great progress, you'll have t'other side done in half the time

Just out of interest, on the third thumbnail photo, when you cut and exposed the box section, did you do anything to the inside of that??

Cheers
Steve

I sprayed Jenolite rust converter and epoxy before I welded in the top section and more rust converter before I left. I’ve left a wee hole I will weld up last so I can spray in more converter and epoxy after this section is welded. After the car is painted all these areas will get a thorough dose of Bilthamber S50.

That's really informative, with all that prevention, it should last another 60 years

Hope so. The bilthamber long spray nozzles work really well.

That’s all the welding done. It was a bit of a challenge getting the old repair decent enough, the inner wing will need some filler to look okay.

Looks pretty good this end of t'internet, by the time you've primed, painted and either stonechipped or undersealed it, i doubt filler will be needed. Also if i've understood the location of the repair, it won't actually be visible when the wing is on and the engine etc fitted.

Another nice job!

Thanks. The original inner wing repair where it was welded on should have been done smoither, I've made it a bit better. He's just welded the repair panel how it came but it needs straightening and curving the transition area to match the original.
