Default Tyre pressure monitoring

Hello all,

I know only some Volvo models came with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, but mine doesn't have it.

I'm just wondering for those of us without TPMS, do any of you use the aftermarket ones? What's your thoughts on them and which system do you use?

Thanks for reading.

My Volvo has TPMS but I moved the aftermarket one from my last non-TPMS Volvo to it as the aftermarket one has more functionality. It can let you know when pressures are too high as well as when the temperature of a wheel is hot, which is great as it suggests the caliper is binding. I have just bought one for a second sacrifice car as I am teaching my kids to drive and it has problems. It may have to go back as the pressures are out and the temperatures are waaay out. They are very cheap, £21 for the solar powered reicever and the four sensors. It is a no brainer and will save you destroying your tyres by driving on them under-inflated. The original one I bought is 10 years old now and I have only replaced the button batteries once.

Do you have a link to the one you purchased?

This is the one I have had for about 10 years and I charges itself up via solar and switches itself on when it senses vibration and switches itself off when there is no vibration. I have a replacement internal battery for it but I have not fitted it yet as I'm thinking it must be getting tired after 10 years.

This is the one I bought a couple of weeks ago. It seems to be reading all wrong. I an going to take it out for a drive to see if that sorts it out. If that doesn't work I will hard reset it and re-sync the sensors to it.

I wonder if these are a better "solution" than the factory fit system ?

Below is one example of what I have seen lately.

When looking at the cost of these "kits" I also wonder how much extra Volvo might charge for the feature should it be a factory option !

Don't buy the TPMS in the lower link. For the first time I went out for a drive with it and it is near useless. Impossible to read the temps in sunlight, not to mention the incorrect readings. It is going back for a refund. Buy the monochrome LCD one above.

Lancee, I think you have posted the wrong link in your comment?

Thanks for providing those links.

Where do you mount the display? I assume on top of the dash?

When you need to add air to the tyres, do you have to carry that spanner with you to undo the sensors so you can access the valve?

Thread bump*

Anyone have one of these aftermarket type TPMS systems. If so, where and how do you monitor the display?

The LCD monochrome one comes with a sticky pad which allows you to sit it on top of your dashboard and not have it slide about on cornering. It will also get charged up from the sun when on top.

Thank you. I'm sorry to be a pain, but where abouts on the dash are we talking?

My car has what I describe as a metal mesh near where the interior flashing light for the alarm is. That would seem like the most logical place to mount it?
