Default '95 850 T5 Newbie with brake problem

Hi all,

I have recently acquired a 95' 850 T5 off another forum member who didn't have the time to sort this problem out.

The car is absolutely fine apart from its brakes....Basically, the pedal is pretty hard to press, and when you press at any speed it pulls to one side. I can see by the discs that only one side is working properly.

The previous owner had the brakes tested and his mechanic said that there is pressure into the master cylinder, pressure out of there into the ABS unit, and pressure out of the ABS unit/pump in all lines except one. This would obviously lead me to believe this is the culprit. I can get another pump for £50, but just wanted to check with you guys that this is the probable cause before I get it replaced. I also wanted to check how much a should be paying an Indy to carry out the work.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mat

Do you know if he checked it at the pump or at the caliper? Faulty abs pump, seized caliper or blocked brake line are pretty much the only things it could be but if he's checked the pressure from the abs pump then i would put it down to that. As for price it shouldn't take anymore than an hour 2 at the most to change the pump and bleed the brakes

Hi Rips, thanks for quick reply. I'm pretty sure he tested it at the pump. Apparently the caliper was replaced to try and remedy the problem. Right, I will get going on the replacement and post back.

Just as a matter of interest can anybody recommend a decent volvo meachanic in East London/Essex - my usual guy is on hols for 2 weeks.

Thanks again
