Default Painting Plastic

Hi peeps.

Looking for some advice on painting plastic (bumpers, grills etc) on a proper perm basis.

Thinking plasti dip with a proper primer so it's non removable.

Does anyone know what the Volvo blue is called in the emblem or its pan tone equiv?

Thanks

Can you get plasti-dip properly colour matched?
If it doesn't matter (eg. the things being coated are black or grey & don't need to match anything) that's cool, but if it's colour-coded bumpers then it's going to look wrong.

As I'm colour blind anyway, is that a slightly dark royal blue?

Plasti-dip if memory serves is a paint that sets like plastic and is mainly as the name suggests, for dipping components into to coat them, not for painting.

Plastikote on the other hand is a paint formulated for colouring plastic, best used with a good plastics primer or you can use normal spray paint/rattle cans over most plastics primers.

Also if the plastic you're painting is more like vinyl/leather, many of the leather paints work well too.

All depends on what exactly you're painting and the finish you want.

It is indeed Dave but whereas 'straight' plasti-dip can be peeled off, using a primer makes it permanent. It's also possible to enhance the std finsh with pearl or metal flake laquers these days.

What I've painted is the silver front grill diagonal thingy! Now I've done it I hate it as it just looks minging.
The concept is fine but the chosen blue sucks. Going to go for a lighter hue of the Volvo blue next time (when I can pick up said item). I'm also going to prep better...

In that case Dave, i have an idea. Two links, first is to a chrome finish, second is a colour of your choice.

Granted it will be a bit more fiddly than paint but easier to remove if you don't like it and who knows, you might even prefer it?

If not, hopefully it will provide food for thought.

Thanks for that but nah...

Strangely I'd thought of trying to wrap it, but discovered its not only bloomin hard but you are pretty limited on colour.

Food for thought but I'll try Wimpy next
