I finally picked up my new car today (very happy with it so far).

During the handover, we couldn't get text messages to be delivered to the car.

The phone connected no problem and I could make/receive calls and stream music etc, but when I was sent a text, the car did not report it.

The message options within the communication section of the setup menus were both greyed out.

Is this actually possible without Carplay?

The phone is an iPhone 6S.

Thanks

I have a 6S and the car receives and plays my messages. I would guess it’s a setting in your phone. Maybe when it’s connected to the car go into settings - blurtooth and then maybe select your car as the connected device and then see if you need to toggle an option to enable messages. I know the option exists, just can’t think exactly where it is in the Bluetooth settings.

My dealer told me that I need to disable iMessage if I want that to work. Give that a try.

I haven’t disabled it because if I do, then I don’t receive any messages at all from iPhones that know I have an iPhone, so I just use CarPlay and the messages work fine.

I am sure it only works if you have internet connection.

I use iMessages and they come through the car.

Sorted - for some reason, the Bluetooth connection to the car was showing "show notifications" had defaulted to off.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Is it car menu or iOS notifications menu? A bit more detail. Nearly three years old, now I sorted all my gremlins I will get the text messages to come through.

In iOS:

Settings
Bluetooth
My XC90
Press ‘i’
Turn on ‘Show Notifications’

Mine displays and can read out both SMS and iMessages.

Don’t ask me how or if it can reply though, and it won’t delete from Sensus either they mine is set up.
