Afternoon, I recently took my egr valve and cooler off to resolve the blocked cooler issue. My car has just passed 152k, and has had the numerous fixes from Volvo via the original owner. I split the cooler and filled it with brake cleaner, but this did nothing at all. I ended up using Mr muscle oven cleaner and a jet washer. What a perfect job this was. It took a few attempts due to the amount of black crop inside the cooler, but it ended up working perfectly. A word of caution about the use of Mr muscle and contact with aluminium, it will attack it if you leave it on for a prolonged period. Simply spray it into the finned pathways, leave it for a couple of minutes and apply the pressure washer, and it should be OK. Mine has been running much better for the last 8 weeks, and the code hasn't come back.
