Hello there , the answer is yes
Geartronic is Volvo Cars' name for its manumatic automatic transmission, similar to Porsche's Tiptronic. It is available in 4-, 5-, 6-, and 8-speed models, and is controlled by a microprocessor. The microprocessor automatically shifts to the next gear if a forgetful user in manual mode red lines the engine.

They usually do or at least other brands I've driven (merc/bm) have done which is why I generally wrote them off as a bit of a gimmick tbh, maybe just haven't revved it high enough? Or the volvo semi auto is better than I give it credit for
For the upshift why not just have a button that switches to non economical longer gear mode and changes later What's the downshift like, again only ever driven other brand semis but whenever I tried there was the longest ever delay before it happened and you're halfway round the bend by then, you really had to plan ahead Last edited by stuart bowes; Jun 5th, 2022 at 10:33. |

I have heard others who say it is more fuel efficient in manual mode but I have tried that and not found it to be the case. |

Think of it as floor mounted paddle shift!!!
Quote:
One thing I have noticed when going downhill in Geartronic mode instantaneous mpg instantly goes to 99.9mpg as soon as you lift your foot off the accelerator.....but there again it does when left in drive anyway! NB if you use Geartronic as a variant of a "paddle shift" it does shift up when "red lined" - in that it behaves in almost exactly the same way as "sport mode" in the normal T5 auto-box V70 - my T5 2.3 SE has the winter mode fitted/programmed but no sport or normal - I don't know if those variants were available if the Geartronic was fitted. Does anyone know if there is an option in a hidden list of button presses? Re paddle shift - I was toying with the idea of fitting an after-market wheel/column mounted paddle shift (possibly fitting an elongated paddle switch in place of the satnav button???) as a bypass/over-ride/replacement of the bump/contact switch used in the Geartronic system's auto stick shift........but then how often would you want to use it for pure acceleration? The standard redline limiter takes you outside the maximum torque and powerband parameters so the ability to use the Geartronic "up-shift" would enable the driver to keep optimum power and traction over a much wider speed range

I bought a 2.5T geartronic to replace a standard 2.4 auto because my wife only has an automatic licence and this is the best I could get to have a semblance of manual shift, which I miss.
It's actually useful around town to lock into 2nd when navigating roads with lots of speed bumps I find. |

That's the same reason I got my auto and annoyingly she hasn't even driven it yet . I really miss the enjoyment of manual as well
To be fair though the normal auto does does still have the option of locking into low/3/4 if needed which I've used a few times in the lake district with long steep hills |
