Depends on what you want! T6 goes well, but will cost a little more in insurance etc.. 2.4 fine if you just want to poodle around. If everything else is equal, I'd certainly go for the T6.

Not sure whether all T6's were auto's, but the autoboxes tend to only last about 80k due to the massive torque through them & cost £2-3k to replace. I've heard this from a few sources & I think one of the members on here has had to replace one.
Just something to bear in mind ! John.

Really woudl recommend buying this car from a dealer with a Volvo warranty. There's too many expensive things that may be wrong.
Used prices are coming down fast, I'd give it a good go in negioating with dealers. My recent experience buying a new C70 has shown that 10% can come off without too much trouble. My S80 is a 2.9SE, and I'm happy with it. Goes well enough if you put your foot down, and returns 30mpg when driven with care. Good luck in your continuing search. Paul VOC S80 Register Keeper |

Ian
I fully concur with Paul - buy from a Volvo main dealer and get the peace of mind that a Volvo warranty will bring you. My last Volvo was an V70XC which was a `Friday` car and did not have the warranty attached to it I was led to believe it would have (a long, long story). However, the expensive faults that occured were rectified at absolutely no cost to me and with no argument by a Volvo main dealer. My current 2.4 170bhp S80 replaced it this summer and was also bought from a main dealer. Like the XC my S80 is bristling with technology to make life easier and more enjoyable, BUT, also more expensive should things prematurely start to go wrong. This has manufacturer warranty for peace of mind for a full 12 months. Not sure of your budget but you could get a used S80 with 24 months of manufacturer warranty. I`ve no experience of a 2.9 in any guise but I must say my 2.4 is no slouch when required to move, though the nature of the car seems to encourage effortless, comfortable cruising as opposed to hammering around. I think the 140bhp would be a tad slow and, if you`re the kind of driver that likes to make a sharp exit from traffic lights I would suggest avoiding the 5 speed automatic transmission as it takes a second to re-engage drive when the footbrake has been fully depressed at a stop. Great for the environment and your fuel bills but not great for fast getaways - if that is your thing. Good luck. |

No problem, Ian. Incidentally, I would also suggest you seek out a SE trim level. The S is a little basic compared to the SE. I`ve just borrowed a `03 S80 from my dealer which is quite basically appointed compared to my `01 SE. That said, the `03 has an optional reversing sensor which is excellent.
