Default Spline sleeve issues - how many miles before yours failed?

What is the furthest anyone has driven before the spline sleeve issue, present on some models, has become evident and AWD fails?

Is yours an earlier model and have you owned it from new? I think they started upgrading the part after three or four years and the 185bhp diesel had a better sleeve.

I wonder what accounts for the vast differences we see? Do you have to handle snow and/or tow a lot?

Are they 200k really gentle miles e.g. no heavy towing? There has to be a reason as to why one would fail at 50k and another at nearly 200k!

mines an '03..... I'm its second owner for the last two weeks..

I believe the new sleeve is uprated so might get it changed over in the new year anyway before it kills the angle gear...

If it is capable of hitting nearly 200k without failing then your angle gear may be safe for a while yet! I guess it depends very much on what you are using it for.
