Default Rear Door Pin - Stuck?

Hi All,

My 2009 V70 has recently developed a fault, in which one of the passenger rear door lock pins will not fully eject when unlocked. This meaning to open the door the inside handle needs to be used to open and move the pin all the way up.

Is this a known issue/fix?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, gave this a few goes however no joy on mine. I have also tried spraying a little lubricant on the pin, again no success.

I think you have either a missing metal spring that could have fallen off inside the lock on that particular door, or the motor inside the door lock on the door you're having trouble with is faulty. Good news is you can buy the motor, which looks like a chubby battery instead of a whole new lock... locks aren't cheap. The metal part if its missing would have to come off a used lock, but you'd have to source one. As far as I know, Volvo don't sell that metal spring by itself.

You'd have to take yours apart to see if the little metal spring is still there, as there's no way of knowing without disassembling it. If the spring is present and it works, then its likely the motor (which is replaceable) and the part number will be written on it. Then you can order a new motor (which looks like a little battery) online when you know what the part number is. Its more common for the motor to fail, but if the pin/spring is missing, there's no point ordering a motor.

If you discover that the spring is missing, you'd have to source a used lock and transfer the pin from that to your existing one, or just take the existing lock out and replace it with the used one. That's up to you.

Watch this video. Its not something you'll do in five minutes... It would probably take around 2-3 hours for someone who's never done it before. Its quite fiddly and you definitely need to make sure you don't lose any of the washers or plastic parts.

If you aren't comfortable doing it yourself, you may have to bring your car to an auto electrician. Although, they likely wouldn't bother replacing a little spring or motor, they'd just replace the whole lock.
