Default 940 AC Differences In Petrol / Diesel??

Hi,

Jimarilo has posted a sales thread as he has removed his AC from his 940, looking at the public profile I think he may have a 2.4 TDIC, I've got a 2.0 turbo petrol, so am just wondering if the AC systems are interchangeable or completely different??

Appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers,
Steve

I think most of it would be different.

What bits do you need? I've broke a couple with A/C.

Hi Luke

Many thanks for the steer, I don't actually know if I need anything yet, AC not really worked this year, so might just need regassing.

I was going to get my garage to do a recharge when I put it in for the MOT a few months ago, but forgot🙄

If the AC Parts had been the same, then I was thinking of getting them as a 'just in case basis'.

AC not really a pressing issue and on my never ending 'to do' list

Will bear you in mind as and when I get round to going through the troubleshooting FAQ on here, if I need anything.

Cheers
Steve

Just be aware it's a bit of an involved conversion, and I think I'm right in saying the heater box needs to be replaced which involves removing a lot of under dashboard stuff.

I fitted AC including the full ECC climate control to my 1990 740 diesel. The AC worked about a year, lost all the gas and I've not tried to resurrect it since...

If memory serves Steve, the "body parts" are the same including the heater box and condenser (what many refer to as the AC radiator) but the compressor and/or its brackets are likely to be different and same goes for the underbonnet pipework. However i'm fairly sure the dryer (the strange looking canister on the bulkhead on the left) is the same across the range as well.

Easiest way of finding out if the compressors are the same is to check the part numbers on both - be mindful of the fact that when the car manufacturers buy them in, they often buy them with specific port/bracket arrangements and the compressor is the same underneath but because of the minor external differences, they have separate part numbers.

Now is a good time to get your AC sorted out as it's very useful for defogging the windscreen!

Very likely, last time i checked new condensers were £70-100, worth adding a new reciever/dryer (£20-30) at the same time as they are, by rights, a service part then have the system evacuated, leak-tested and then new oil for the compressor, gas and maybe the optional extras of leak sealer and leak detector dye added. Most places charge ~£60 for a regas which should include all that except of course the optional extras.
