Default V70 D5 sudden power power loss

During a 200 mile journey a few days ago I needed to overtake at about 65mph on a slight hill , changed down from 5th to 4th , there was initially some acceleration seemed normal power and then suddenly after 3 seconds with foot down power dropped to about 50% and wouldnt go more than 65mph. Happened a second time about fifty miles further on . Switching the engine off completely and then back on and power is restored , I dont think its the turbo ? Could it be the MAF unit ? Have experienced the problem a few times over the past 25k miles but as it was intermittant havnt yet been concerned enough to get it fixed but now seems like problem is not going away on its own and may get worse . Car now covered 118k miles and its never had any major component replaced . I couldnt find any articles on the MAF unit , is there anything that explains in detail how this component works ?

I would have thought injectors but i see your car is the later 2005 model..sounds like a fuel issue..has your filter been replaced?..

sorry its the pull down menu that put it as a 2005 , mine is December 2003. The fuel consumption and power are fine at the moment and have done a further 100 miles since with no power loss ( but also havnt tried to boot it ) , its only under hard acceleration the power loss happens , I suppose if its the injectors then its going to be an expensive job. If it was likely to be the MAF then I would try replacing it myself , not sure I want to have a go at the fuel injectors .

no the fuel filter has never been replaced , sounds like something I can manage and wont cost a lot so I will try that today and probably needs doing considering the mileage , thanks for the advice

Default limp mode?

Did the car go into limp mode when you accelerated? that is, did any light come on and revs limited? If so I would investigate air hoses for splits/tears as this is a common cause of such issues. Easy to fix but hard to find! A Volvo dealer or specialist (like us) would have a tool to pressurise hoses to check for leaks. If injectors are problem test by removing return pipes off each injector and seeing if one or more returns much more fuel than another - this would point to faulty injector but try to find air leak first (most common).
