Changed the ac compressor which all went fine all connected up and ready to take to my ac chap to charge up again. The clutch won’t engage. I’ve had a quick google and it says it may have a pressostat to stop it engaging when there isn’t any pressure in the system.

I cancelled my slot but didn’t get chance to speak to my mechanic.

Anyone know the answer?

"pressostats" disappeared 25 years ago . but the engine ECU runs the compressor now and has a pressure sensor in the AC system so it needs gas pressure before it will turn the Compressor on.
You can test the compressor before gas is added by connecting a 12v feed to the wire going to the compressor , you will have put the 70cc of PAG oil in the compressor before fitting it so it will be ok to run for a few seconds whilst you test it .
