Fro earlier posts it seems that phase 1 cars are not compliant despite having the connector. I'd search this forum as I recall someone linking to some software that will work. IIRC it's £100+ though :-( The connector is the same I believe.

It might be as it has the Seimens EMS2000 ecu. There has been someone on here with a 98T4 that was compliant but I dont know if that means they all will be, it could be the ecu was only made compliant from that year onwards. The non turbos werent compliant until alot later.

........be careful what one you get as i have had a couple one was £60 and would not do what was stated as it was the older model.....sellers just want to sell there back lot of old scanners..........i settled for the U480 scanner from eBay i think about £25.....it tells you the codes and will also erase them.....there are other functions as well and it comes complete with a book containing about 1000 codes, does not need batteries either.......my `98 V40 T4 is compliant, as "Dandle" says it has the Seimens EMS 2000 ecu, it was registered 30th December 1998, but i think they stopped producing them in Sep. `98

The seimens EMS 2000 ECU was used right up until the end of production of the S40, it was used on all turbo cars from 98(and maybe before i dont know) and then alot of the N/A cars used it when they had to become OBD2 compliant in 2001.

Ok my bad it didn't read like that to me, sorry. The phase 1 T4 didn't stop production that year though, My T4 was made in sep99 and I'm pretty sure they were made right up until the phase 2 cars came out in 2000/2001 when they got the larger engine.

EMS 2000 (all petrol turbo + phase2 N/A) is OBD2 compliant. Siemens Fenix 5.1 (phase 1 N/A) is NOT OBD2 compliant.
