You may well find that the rpm is limited to the 3000rpm whilst the vehicle is stationary. I know that Mercedes do that, so I'm sure it would also apply to other makes.

Thanks for the reply.

Thought about this (as the father-in-law’s jag does the Same) however I dont recall it doing it before I replaced the injector (possible mind as it was running rough prior to injector replacement) and if it was a ‘stationary feature’ I’d expect more forum folks to know about it..

Also car has no MOT and I’ve stripped the brakes so it’s going to be stationary for a while - so cant test the stationary feature hypothesis

Oh the joy of project cars…

take a good look at the intercooler for splits /cracks and all associated hoses a smoke test is the easy way to do this test there are some instructions on how to make one on youtube look for any displaced vac pipes which may have been disturbed whilst working on the injectors .

Visually inspected the pipe work already… nothing obvious, also removed and refitted the whole lot to make sure they were air tight. May try the smoke test if its not too much hassle to setup though…

Just to close this one out (for any future search requests)

It appears to be a safety feature, my car won't rev above 3000rpm when stationary however a quick spin round the block (once I'd re-built the brakes) and it went past 3000rpm in 1st gear!

Thanks to those that suggested this

One off the snaglist!

@Mods - you can close this!

Might be a wild goose chase but here goes. My old XC60 D5 went into for a belt change. I've got no evidence to prove anything but I'm convinced the garage refitted the new cam belt with a tooth out and might have bent something slightly. It must have run like a bag of hammers so clearly the garage sorted the belt and got it right. Following this my revs would go higher than 3000 but only to about 3500 for an extended period. So something might have got bent or an exhaust valve spring might have gone soft. Nothing to see on the plug in computer until going over the 3500 ish. The exhaust gas was directed into the inlet manifold, limp mode and the rest was history. Assuming you hadn't burnt the manifold sensor the car would restart and run as good as gold. I had the car for 5 years in this state and just never ran it above 3500.
