Speed detector
Anybody use one of these devices? Thinking of buying one either a Origin B2 or a Snooper SR6 Neo. Just wanted to know what other members had?

I have a Snooper Evolution.
I still have my licence too!! It's an OK tool, but is not a definate be-all-and-end-all solution to locating 'accident blackspots' (okay, okay, Speed Scameras). I am constantly pressing the update button to store new locations. I paid 250 notes for the Evolution. Money well spent if it saves my licence, even just once! You still have to be aware of what's around you, so if youre looking for a quick fix ban avoidance tool then you would be sorely mistaken by buying a radar detector. If you want it to supplement your own built in radar avoidance, then it's the thing for you.

My friend had an older model that always went off going past automatic doors on shops. Do they still do this? It was pretty annoying!

The system I now have, which has made my Road Angel redundant is a Blue Media 6380. This is a Sat Nav. but also gives verbal warning if required of the current speed limit. It tells you of all speed camera & Specs, but the best of it is, it warns you of ALL mobile locations. It also warns you about traffic lights fitted with Red light jump cameras.
Great piece of kit for around £250. Can also be used in Pedestrian mode. Dave V70 'R' AWD |

I use a Valentine 1. Rear and forward looking sensor for radar location.
I don't drive that fast since owning a Volvo. I like to think I have a device that helps me minimise my tax liablity. http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/val2000.htm http://www.valentine1.com/ Last edited by poopbunny; Apr 25th, 2006 at 10:19. |

Have you considered one of these as cameras are not the problem. Its the bugger in the van with a lastec 20:20 no detector is going to save you from one of these as 0.3 of a second and your speed has been captured.

Cumbrianmale is right.
I also have an M20 Blinder installed. Like I said if you don't travel fast you have nothing to worry about. I only drive as fast as the car in front of me and the car behind me. Unfortunately speed cameras don't discriminate. |

Having had a number of devices in the past my vote definitely goes to the one I currently use and it was also Auto Express's recommended selection in a recent review. I use a Talex, one of the cheapest and simplest devices on the market - no false alarms like my previous Snooper S4 and it also warns of areas where mobile cameras are likely to be situated. It is 100% legal and will remain so since it doesn't have a radar detector which never worked on my Snooper anyway!
Only minor problem is the reflection in the windscreen from the silver top cover but this has been changed with the new Talex Lite which is even cheaper, lacks only a few features of the Talex and was the best buy for Auto Express. I don't condone speeding but when you are in a strange town, looking for road signs, directions etc the last thing you need to be doing is watching out for cameras. |

speed trap vans
They need to have a clear "shot" of your car, otherwise you could argue that they were measuring the speed of the vehicle in front or behind.
Im told the same goes for gatsos. They cant prosecute you if there is another vehicle on the secondary check marks on the ground, amazing what you read! Wouldnt it be a shame if the bin men accidentally collected and disposed of the "wheelie bin gatso" Not sure if anyone has posted this before (i cant even remember if I have) but heres some light relief from the tyranny of gatsos! www.speedcam.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gatso2.htm Dont go and try to do the same! |
