240 DL wagon long term problem now really bad
Hi, I bought a used 1983 240 DL wagon some years ago, and it always lost power intermittently when it was cold. I would just endure until it warmed up.
Over the years this has gotten worse. These days, it's so bad, I have to pump the accelorator to get the car to move. My mechanic has been stumped as to what the problem is, he's looked at the air mass meter a lot but ruled it out. Specifically, when I start the car, it idles very low, and will stall right after starting if I let it..then upon driving, it will run unevenly, gasp, and lurch down the street..after it warms up, this problem settles down into simply accelerating very very slowly..seems to resist building up RPMs. Making a turn at an intersection is very "iffy". It doesn't seem to be running very easily at higher speeds. One other related symptom is that when I am coasting down a hill, and i step on the accelorator again, nothing happens unless i stomp on it quite forcefully. Then, it seems to 'catch'. I would like to know what to say to a mechanic when I next try to solve this mystery. Thanks in advance. Grasshopper |

RE: 240 DL wagon long term problem now really bad
Maybe the diagfram (sorry cant spell it) has split inside the carburettor. I had a 240 wagon that behaved in the same way and it was this.
