XC90 Sat Nav?
I note from the map update site that the download is around 33 Gb, compared to around 17.5 GB for the standard Sensus Nav.
Can anyone tell me what is different? Are the maps more detailed, higher quality, etc? Thank you. tem.

Has anyone updated their Sat Nav software yet?
There is a new update Version 1140, released on 14/03/2016. The download, which includes Russia is 36.39GB. There are options to download selected countries, but I find it odd that there is no Western Europe option, as I am sure this is the region where most of us drive. One is going to need a fast broadband connection to download the full map update. tem.

Please tell me this new version tells you what road to travel onto.
Again, just this afternoon when travelling away from Birmingham, there is a junction on the M42 for the A446 and the M6 Toll. The A road and the M42 bear left, whilst the M6 Toll route takes the outer two lanes. The crapnav simply says to stay right - what it means is stay to the right of the two lanes leaving on the left. Now if it had said "stay right onto M42", or even "Remain on M42" that would be good, but simply to say "Keep to the right" invites those who know no better to take the M6 Toll. At roundabouts does the new system say "Take the 4th exit onto .....(name or number of road). The current crapnav doesn't, (it does very occasionally, but only when it's very obviousl anyway) which means problems if the exits have been changed - and with increasing developments, this is not infrequent. I know you might find this a bit whingey, but considering the cost of the car, the satnav should at be at least as good as the free apps for your phone or tablet, or those on cheaper Garmins or TomToms etc. which at the moment are considerably better than my existing Volvo effort. |

Sorry, but I cannot help until I get my V90.
I think, since early this year there has been two software updates and this is most unusual, in such a short space of time. Maybe the latest download may address some of the issues and can only suggest that you try it. Hopefully, you have fast broadband. Sat Nav is only a help, it is the driver who has to make the correct decision. I have no experience with the new XC90 Sat Nav system, but if it has Lane Departure, then 99% of the time it is correct. This is from experience with two XC90's, one XC60 and two V60's. Please update. tem.

mine def tells you what road/exit to take at the roundabout.
if unsure when comming up to motorway splits look at the screen and the arrows showing which lane to be in should give it away. |

I struggled with the sat nav on the M6 split the first time, but now have the main display showing the map when I'm around those junctions. I can't remember which of the multiple screens tells you the route, but it is there somewhere.
I've updated our XC90 to 1140 this evening. I only updated the North West Europe (UK & very helpfully Iceland...). The download for that is just under 1Gb but took about 25mins to load from the USB stick into the car. All went very smoothly despite having to shut down half way through, and on just a short drive afterwards it all worked well although I haven't had much opportunity to spot the differences yet.
