V60 DRL (front running lights)
Our 2011 V60 has had one of its front DRL's fail (drivers side).
Is the DRL a DIY job? Can't see how to get to it save getting the bumper off. its the earlier type of LED running lights, at a vertical angle next to the main light cluster. Any ideas? Also, where's the best place to get a replacement? Seen some wildly different prices online. Any help appreciated. |

On the XC60 these are were series with a position indicator light that is in the main headlight housing. When this incandescent bulb failed the LED also goes off. It isn't easy to spot the build, try at night and compare side to side.
Incidentally these vertical led strips are not DRL, they are not bright enough and also in the wrong place. They are actually parking lights

As wimorrison said check your side light bulb in headlamp is or isn't working .if it's not replace that bulb first then hopefully it shouldn't need reset

Ah ok, that's interesting! Will check and report back.
Always thought they were almost a 1st gen DRL before they were mandatory. They are LED, but yes, dimmer than DRL's on most other cars. You learn something new every day! |

Nope, the V60 has directional xenon headlights and no incandescent bulbs.
So, the 'side light' LED DRL has failed. Where can I source one, how much are they and is it a bumper off job as I fear?!?! |

Yes, it is a bumper off job but if you are a reasonably competent DIY mechanic you will find it quite simple. You could try a breaker but used parts will have potential to fail early. I suppose it's then either OE from Volvo or aftermarket from something like Ebay. Bear in mind aftermarket may be brighter/not match etc.

I don't mean to state the obvious, but the whole Headlight unit is easily removed from the front of the car, by removal of the two locating pins.
With the LED running light located right next to these I'd be surprised, if you couldn't get to the back of the LED's with the headlight removed, but I have never tried. |
