Well, at my service and MOT last month I was told once again that my brakes are very good and they get good readings on a machine they use at MOT and now we think we know what is wrong with the brakes - it is me! The other car I drive is a quite new Toyota Yaris hybrid. When I first get into the Yaris I nearly put us through the windscreen when I brake as I am pressing the brake pedal as I would in the Volvo. When I first get back into my Volvo after driving the Yaris I don't press the pedal hard enough and wonder where my brakes are. Garage thinks that driving the Yaris is causing me to expect the Volvo brakes to be the same as the Yaris but apparently the Yaris hybrid has power brakes, a whole different ball game?

Snap! When I test drove an Auris Hybrid for the first time I stopped at a give way sign and nearly put the salesman through the windscreen! The Auris Hybrid brakes certainly feel far more sensitive/stopping power than the 1996 Volvo 940 I have. You do need to press more firmly on the 940.
I bought a 2015 Auris Hybrid estate. Also have my 940LPT auto estate.

I'd agree, not got toyota hybrid but have, and have had numerous honda hybrids.

The brakes on my Honda don't operate initially, because the first part f the braking is regenning the battery, which has quite a good braking effect, to the point that some hondas will do over 100k on original brakes!
But some are a case of touch the pedal and peel your nose off the windscreen effect.

Partner and I have the same problem. Current Mk4 Golf brakes will send you through the windscreen but has a high clutch. Her Mk1 Ka - barely any brakes but such a low clutch that I routinely stall it because I mainly drive the Golf. Val the 940 is somewhere in between and about to get better once I rebuild the sticking rear caliper.
