I really hope that they sell the car-making operation back to AB Volvo...

That's all very well, but will Volvo AB be in a position to buy it? Given that Volvo Trucks' sales are 98% down on this time last year with only 17 trucks ordered Europewide last month.
Equally will Ford be asking a reasonable price for it? They paid $8billion give or take, but I doubt they'd get that in this climate, certainly not when every manufacturer is struggling. |

Volvo AB came out with a statement last Thursday or Friday along the lines of we will see if we can make cash available to help out the car division but we are not interested in buying Volvocars.
This was reported again today at the bottom of this just-auto article

I see a possible sale to the far east coming up. Ford is desparate for money, the Chinese motor industry in particular is expanding rapidly (or at least it was, who knows in the current "global economic crisis") and would love to get their hands on the platforms and technology Volvo currently have.
As GMcL have said Volvo AB are openly stating they're not interested in buying Volvo cars, they talk about "possible joint ventures" but that's it. Interesting times.... |

Reading the news it sounds like there is a serious push for Shanghai Automotive Industry to acquire it. Is it just me or would that be particularly worrying for the brand?
