I have just traded in my beloved XC 90 but retained my private plate X90 VVO on a retention certificate, valid until Dec 15.

I have had a number of PMs but am unable to reply by PM as I am too new to the forum.

I am asking £750.

My understanding is that the X prefix ran from Sep 2000- Feb 2001 therefore it can go on any vehicle first registered from Sep 2000 onward.

I've known people pay a lot more for more spurious manufacturer/model reg combos.

They are no more private or unique than any other plate as you say , They are just old ones which have been on cars in the past but where the car has been written off , scrapped or in recent years withheld from being issued by the Government to sell off at an inflated price . They only mean something to the owner of the car they are fitted to , he or she's trying to make a statement
