Finally!
I finally got myself a 340, as far as I can tell it's a mk2 B14, I love it! Here she is:
Pretty straight? Lil nick in the paintwork though Needs a good polish me thinks One of my friends had the nerve to say it looks like it's about to fall apart - I'd like to see his colt live 28 years. If I still love it after bearing it for a few years it should see a few changes. Lowered 3 inches - LR Shocks, blocks and springs Wheels - Maybe Rota Flashbacks? Red and orange rear lights GLT Spoiler R5 GTT Turbo and custom mani Cherry bomb tip Head Unit - On the Skoda Sub - On the Skoda 4x6 speakers 6x9 and enclosures - On the Skoda Tacho and these Couple of questions for you guys: Does anyone have a tacho going, or will a 1.7 tacho fit a 1.4? Also if I was to fit a R5 GTT turbo would fit, doesn't that mean other turbos that fit the R5 would? Recommendations? I'm pretty clueless about this engine and what can be done, a reliable 130bhp would see me nicely (if it doesn't kill too many propshafts). |

Looks pretty straight
I need to get a 300 in my life... Not many genuine one owner cars about though!! Can't help with the GTT question, but your best bet is to head over to Volvo300mania.com, lots of knowledgeable people over there Steve

Looks clean and tidy that, seems familiar, Was It on eBay recently?
Yeah the rev counter from a 1.7 will fit, possibly easier Just to replace the while dash cluster doesnt take long, half hour or so. Are you talking about Just Putting a Turbo on It from a R5, or doing a complete engine swap. If its the former It wont Last long before u melt the pistons, the engines are basically the same unkt but the 5gtt has uprated pistons amoungst other things. As you say the biggest issue with tuning these is destroying props, i went through 3 on Mine in Less than two years, luckily i've still got 2 spares but they are getting hard to get hold of now. That Was with a 2ltr Williams conversion running around 160bhp.

It looks like a really smart, original car, very nice indeed.
I have its 3-door variomatic brother:

Seeing that interior pic of yours 345DL reminds me of when my uncle arrived for a visit to our house just after getting a spanking new one. He asked me to pop out and get something from the back seat and I thought I broke the bleedin' seat

If thats on a 360 its less of a problem as they use a traditional prop in a torque tube rather than the weak chocolate/rubber ended aluminium torque tube used in the 340's

R5GTT, doable, but it's not "drop in". The thing to check is things fouling the brake master cylinder. I have a B18FT sat in one of mine, F7R in the other. The turbo is an unfinished project, solely because of the amount of work the F7R is. Standard propshafts on the "non torquey" 16V engine just don't survive, due to keeping everything aligned becoming a fairly tricky process. I love the 16V in the 340, it makes a stunning car to drive (with that power, don't just stick land rover dampers on, get some that are actually spec'd to the job. They aren't expensive) but don't think it'll be a reliable daily in the first 12months. Keep it standard, yup, it will easily be, but as soon as you start stressing parts, not a chance.
