For me BLIS is like heated seats... ages ago I would have said pointless luxury but once you have them, you wouldn't buy a car without them! Same for BLIS.

It is the rear cross traffic alert I would miss the most, it has saved near misses if not prangs several times as I reverse off my drive, there is a T junction a few yards from my drive and drivers look right but rarely left as they turn left into our road without looking. The cross traffic alert picks them up and gives plenty of warning.

Still, I'm not in a hurry. I love it on my current XC60 and I am sure it has prevented an accident.
I ordered my XC60 in May and got it last week with bliss ,360 cameras and pilot assist so I must have been lucky. Everything works but I have to get used to this Google system since it is quite different to sensus..

Yes sounds like you are one of the lucky ones. In hindsight wish I had ordered earlier. Interestingly BLIS and park Pilot are still on xc90 and v90 but not on v60 and xc60. So they are clearly prioritising certain models.

I did ask the dealer about adding BLIS later but it sounds like it’s a no go. Has to be on the car at the factory build.

There's a thread on the general page about Speed limiters being introduced on all new cars, in which it was pointed out that in the UK that appears to be a contributing factor in only 5% of accidents meanwhile, by far the biggest contributory factor is "Driver/rider failed to look properly" with 37%.

So while cars are being given speed limiters to reduce accidents, a number of other safety systems, BLIS etc, as discussed here which are designed to combat the biggest contributory factor to accidents are currently being deleted off the specifications of new cars and are unavailable. This is due to the chip shortages, but still provokes an interesting point.

Hadn’t seen that post but worth noting that speed is one of the main factors in fatal road accidents and 3,121 people were killed or seriously injured in accidents where ‘exceeding the speed limit’ or ‘travelling too fast for the conditions’ was recorded as a contributory factor by the police in the last year of records.

So I wouldn’t say speed is inconsequential because it most certainly isn’t.

Where I would agree is that things like BLIS shouldn’t be removed and that poor observation is in itself a contributory factor. Surely they could have made some other tweak instead rather than remove a safety feature that Volvo even bothered to trade mark. We got confirmation our V90 will have it but for a while was concerned it had been dropped from it.

I agree the cross traffic alert is a very well thought out addition really pleased to have it. Bliss is useful too, but moving your head or a quick look over the shoulder also works. I think it’s at its best when on a motorway with fast approaching vehicles.
