Default Poor AM/FM Radio Reception

I’ve just purchased a 1999 S80 T6. The car is super, but the radio reception is so poor that I suspect that the internal radio antenna is disconnected from the radio. Can anybody suggest an easy way to access the back of the radio? Or has anyone had a similar problem with poor reception and was able to pinpoint the cause? Does the 611 units have a signal amplifier?
Thanks

Not sure if this relates to your precise model but this is a known problem -

Radio interference -

This affects:

S80 models chassis numbers 000580 - 049199 with Gearbox GM T65 EV / GT
If there is a radio interference on the AM wave band around 900 kHz then a diode must be cut from the underside of the solenoid in the gear selector assembly. The car must be taken to a Volvo dealership for the work to be done.

The interference occurs during acceleration at approximately 13km/h (8mph) and during deceleration at 10km/h (6mph) as the shift lock system activates and deactivates.

See if that helps

Mike

Thanks for prompt reply. Will check, however problem appears to be one of lack of signal strength throughout AM (and some Fm) bands.
