Default whistleing noise

Hi all, after much hunting around ive finally found myself a V70 D5! 139,000 miles on the clock and full service history........first day on the road toady and its developed a whistling noise!! ive tried a google search and all they seem to mention is the alternator clutch seizeing up? thing is my noise is coming from the other end of the engine! it doesnt do it all the time but mainly when pulling away and when a mate listened to it tonight it was also doing it as the revs were dropping down from around 2,500 ish...... any help on this matter greatfully recieved. thanks paul

Hi does it start sounding worse at about 1700rpm if you are reving the car and not in gear,if it does look at the fresh air pipe going to the turbo as these do split, take the pipe of and give it a good check, what year is your car is it a 163hp.

Maybe the varible geometry turbo blades stuck in one position, not lying down.
OR
Maybe boost leak

I had a similar one on my xc70. It was the turbo resonator seals that had split.

Hi all, And thanks for the help! Car is a 52reg 163hp, Mate has looked at it tonight and it appears the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the turbo is blowing slightly? Anyone know what it's like to change this gasket??? I will also check on the points mentioned above at the weekend when I can around the car in daylight. Many thanks again Paul

If he poked his hand in and felt it it may be a split in the exhaust on the 90deg bend, mine went there one time .

Its stainless and i migged it with 308LSI 30k ago
