Keys & Fobs - 1998 V70

Has anyone used a mobile auto locksmith to cut and program new keys and/or fobs for a Phase 1 V70? I only have 1 original key, plus a 'blank' spare which will let me in but won't allow the engine to start.

That sounds like someone has done what I've had to do. I've tried all the local options, the normal 'go to' Timpsons said it has a 'rolling code' chip which cannot be replicated without security software from Volvo in Sweden, hence the 'blank' key which is a mechanical copy for the lock but has no chip for the immobiliser. Volvo should be able to do it if they haven't lost the records for the car but it will cost silly money.

Your best getting lock barrels, ignition barrel, keys fobs and the module out of the dash from a scrap one. Takes about an hour to strip and an hour to put in your own car, plug and play.

I found one with 4 keys and 3 fobs, 3 of each were brand new fitted by volvo (found bill in car for approx £800!) just before car was scrapped (ECU or abs module issue killed it by the look of it), £20 and 2 hours well spent

@ brickman when you say module do you mean the box attached to the top of the instrument cluster underneath the dash top.

Thats the only ne I know of. Lots on eBay but of course with no fobs or keys they are of little use....

I didn't think this controlled the immobiliser that's what made me curious.

I think it's only for the alarm, the immobiliser is in the ignition area, very close to where the key is inserted? Hence the need for the chipped key.

Homework done. P80 cars, box above instrument cluster is effectively the aerial for the central locking and alarm. The control box for this is located by the drivers knee guard.
The immobiliser is a programmed ring attached to the ignition barrel and is triggered by the chipped key.

The former would seem to be interchangeable from car to car, provided they have fobs, whilst the latter is a Volvo dealer affair.

I guess I'm off to Volvo.

So would swapping ignition barrels and the immobiliser components from car to car work.
Also worth noting the 99 and 2000 my cars had a rolling code for the immobiliser
Pre 99 cars didn't.
So would a 98 set up work in a 2000 my etc?
