Default Boost Pressure Sensor removal

I need to replace the Boost Pressure Sensor on the V70 (2013 D3 Auto). I can eyeball it after removing the air filter box, intercooler hose and headlamp, but it's virtually impossible to reach it with a human arm due to the transmission cooler unit.

Has anyone successfully replaced this sensor, and if so, what was your technique for accessing it?

Thanks... and access it from below? This might be a job for the professionals!

I had to replace this sensor on my Euro 6 XC70 recently, I found this video very helpful:

It’s an awkward job and reading these forums, it seems a common issue on the P3 cars, mine is a late model too so Volvo obviously think the short lifespan of this sensor is acceptable.

Awesome, thanks - that's what I've been looking for. I only found a video of a chap with doing it on an older vehicle without the transmission cooler (a manual, presumably).

It would have need helpful if they could have made the sensor more accessible for sure!

Funnily enough I think I’m going to have to tackle this also! My S80 is bringing up an EGR low flow code P1407 which when searched on here people tend to be replacing this sensor. I need to spend some time with it hooked onto Vida. EGR issues aren’t common on 5 cylinders. What are your reasons for changing this sensor?

I plan to change this sensor as a service item, on 86,000 miles now as the failure rate is high enough judging by the posts on here.

I've had an intermittent 'low boost' error (P0299) since purchase (93k miles). Now at 110k miles it's intermittently causing an 'engine system service' dash light. My Volvo specialist said this sensor is a very common failure and is the likely cause, as there is no sign of a split hose or any other damage. They didn't have the sensor in stock, hence I was trying to avoid another day at the garage by swapping it out myself!

EGR valve/throttle body might need a clean. Don't rule that out.

Well I was hoping this wouldn’t be the case, it’s done 57k miles and runs on premium diesel. I was surprised when this fault first reared its head on Thursday. I since cleared it and it’s done 400 trouble free miles since but it came back up this morning. When the VEA engined v60 we had had this fault and the valve and cooler were properly blocked it came back near enough instantly. As it’s not really a common issue on 5 cylinder engines I was learning towards a sensor issue as many seem to have had. If the valve or cooler were blocked I’d expect it to return much sooner than 400 miles. I’m going to pull the map sensor out, that might give an indication as to how clean the intake is.

I’m going to investigate further with vida before taking it properly in bits. Many say getting the valve and cooler off is a pig of a job but I’ve yet to do one on a 5 cylinder. The VEA engine was a doddle.
