Question Random Engine Management Light on

Sorry if this has been asked before but I have only just joined.
My recently-acquired 2009 V70 2.5T SE Lux estate, petrol, manual has the EML coming on randomly, and equally randomly going off again for a few days.
No other lights on, and no message appearing.
Can anyone suggest a few of the most likely things to check out please ?
Car drives as normal throughout.
Thanks.

If you bought it from a garage/dealer, take it back for their attention.

You really MUST get a PROPER reading of any/the fault codes, otherwise you are on a hiding to nothing and can very easily spend a fortune chasing the wrong things.

However it does seem like it's possibly an intermittent fault which depending upon the frequency of occurrence results in either the EML showing or not.

All just my opinion of course !

Modern cars are electronics on wheels. Gone are the days of kicking a wheel to diagnose a fault. The car is telling you it has a fault by illuminating the EML and your response must firstly be to plug in a capable diagnostics kit to ask the car what is wrong.

If you have the interest in doing that yourself, VIDA/DiCE clones are available for sale on the internet and once installed on a suitable old Win 7 laptop can tell what faults are logged in the car's fault log. You can then have a good idea if you can fix it yourself or ask a garage to do it . Volvo specific garages will have this test equipment but they will charge you for their use of it.

With the fault which you are bringing to the forum, it is unlikely that anyone can realistically know what causes this random effect.

Very kind, but in this instance, the original poster hasn't been online since 18th May.

Like many posters on here, they ask for help and never return again to say what the problem ended up being, or if they fixed it or not. Doing so would help others, but there's nothing that can be done to stop it.

This thread, it would seem, is another classic example of that.

It is a shame when posts and possible answers just die.

Plus, he never got to read basics, such as the general advice to make certain one's battery is fully charged before proceeding.
His '09's battery could be very old.
