Being honest, if its working for now, I'd just keep it lubricated on a regular basis throughout the year. Try to use the handle a bit more as opposed to just the key to open the boot.

That's the plan for the time being.

Am I correct in assuming that the boot handle being discussed is a similar design to the P2 Volvo's. The reason I ask is my V70 (MY2015) don't have a handle as such, it is more like a sealed rubber pressure pad.

There's a video on the last page showing it. I'm not familiar with what the P2's are like in that regard.
