Sporadic knocking on front left while steering wheel turned
Hi there,
I'm having a sporadic knocking noise coming from front left on my S60 2011. Sound comes mostly on uneven road when steering wheel is turned slightly or more. It is also happening when the outside is high (at night it doesn't appear as much). Also sometimes it seems it comes from the steering column and sometimes more as it is a suspension related matter. Thanks for help |

there's a list of things that can cause knocking noises, the only solution is a proper inspection, anything less is just someone guessing
could be (but not limited to) ------------------------------ ball joint drop link track rod end loose brake component? wishbone bush suspension top mount etc with car on floor grab door frame or roof rail and rock car side to side, is it knocking? probably drop link related then have bonnet open and bounce the front end while looking at the top mount, does it move around then jack that corner up (support safely or don't put any body parts underneath) grab wheel and wiggle left/right, top/bottom, that might give you some idea if it's bushes or track rod i had balljoint issues and they were not obvious from the wiggle test i think because the wishbone is so tight and springs are very strong. that's more a case of disconnecting everything and wiggling it to see, which is way more involved failing that take it for an inspection because it could be a dangerous problem if left unrepaired Last edited by stuart bowes; May 15th, 2022 at 12:10. |
