part attached to battery N- Terminal
I have searched for this question and can't get a result.
Please could you tell me what the little black box is, that is attached to the negative terminal on the battery (it has 2 wires conected to it). What does it do? I have a volvo V50 11 years old. Thanks in advance Dave |

That will be the Battery Monitoring Sensor/BMS and it measures the voltages on the battery etc.

battery sensor ?
I have been told that if I charge the battery,Ihave to connect the + to the battery and the N- to the chassis Not the battery direct so charge goes through the thing ? Is this correct ?

As said above it's the shunt from where the battery monitoring system gets its data.
And yes, when charging the +ve lead goes direct to the battery terminal and -ve to the chassis - this does not affect battery charging but means the BMS system recognises the charge.
