I belive mud flaps are personal choice I just removed mine yesterday as I don't like the look, also if you fit one the amount of crap that gets between mudflap and body and after few years if you remove them you will have small amount of rust which will need sorted on lower parts on both front wings.

Fitted them to the raer of my XC70 to reduce the dirt thrown up onto the caravan and they are effective. Regarding mpg I have not noticed any change whatsoever either way. Also solo they don't seem to have reduced the throw up from the road/rain but it was about normal for an estate car and inttermittent wipe is all that is required.

They do reduce ground clearance for off roading though!!

Sorry to bump an old thread but I'm currently trying to decide whether to get a set of mudflaps for my 2012 V70, but I've never seen one with them fitted.

Does anyone have any photographs of a current shape V70 with mudflaps on please?

I haven't looked into mudflaps but from a bit of research I've done is a rear spoiler drastically reduces the spray on the rear of the car (improved air flow over the tailgate and less of a vacuum effect) and imho looks nicer.

Hope this helps

Mick

Eventually got round to fitting them today, very easy to fit and they look great

The fronts can be fitted without removing the wheels, just turn them to full lock.

Firstly you remove the 3 screws from the wheel arch liner.

Then give the area a good clean and stick on the self adhesive protector (you can just about see it in this pic).

Hold the mudflap in place and re-fit the 3 screws.

This is the point where I had to grow a pair and take a drill to the second most expensive thing I've ever bought!! Drill through the 2 remaining holes into the liner, then use the supplied pop-rivets, look at the length on that!

Et voilla, first one's done.

The rears are very similar, but you need to remove the wheel for access (why are the wheels stuck to the hubs so? Had to use foot based percussion to get them free!!)

Only 2 screws to remove this time.

Then clean the area, apply the sticky protector, offer up the flap and refit the screws. Drill through, in 3 places this time, and rivet (be careful when drilling the bottom hole 'cos the exhaust is pretty close behind the liner).

..and you're done.

Refit the wheels and admire!

I think they look pretty good and am looking forward to the reduced mess on my car!!

Looks good - is that an R-Design?

I fitted the Volvo front flaps to my 2009 R-Design and fitted some universal ones to the rear that actually fit quite well.

I cannot see how the Volvo flaps will not fit on an R-Design at the rear despite what people say? See picture attached taken from Volvo's Selekt site.....I'm tempted to try a pair....

Cheers,

Richard

No it's not an R-Design Richard, it's an SE-Lux with some extra bits. Looking at the photo of yours, the "skirt" bit of the rear bumper looks deeper and a different profile at the bottom, in which case they wouldn't fit

Take the wheels off one at a time and coat the surface of the hub where it contacts the inside face of the wheel with copper slip, this prevents them from corroding on to the hub and makes it much easier to remove them in future - Mike
