Default Fitting mud flaps

Hi,

With all this wet weather we've been having recently the sides of my R-design are looking brown rather than Titanium Grey!

I've decided to get some front and rear mud flaps from the dealer, but they want to charge £100 to fit them. Looking at the fitting locations on the rears it seems that it's plastic to plastic so a few Volvo plastic rivets will do. Is it the same for the fronts? I've had a tap around the area of the lower wing, near the lower sill cover, and it sounds plastic too. My guess is that if I need to drill any new holes they will probably be into plastic, is that right?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, hopefully the mud flaps will be a Christmas present if I drop enough hints.....

Oh, and by the way, I've done almost 3k in my D5 R-design, and had none of the creaking and rattling that I hear some others have suffered...must remember to book it in for the 3k check...

The mudflap kit is about £50 for the fronts and rears and they are easy
to fit yourself.
Wheels do have to be removed to gain proper access to drill the mountings.
The rears require rivets to be drilled out and replaced to fi the flaps.
Full fitting instructions here.

Is that because of the bodykit?

I'll have to check with the dealer before I order them that they will fit the R-design.

If santa does bring them could you please report back on how easy they were to fit and how effective they are. I'd be particularly interested to know if the back window and tailgate stay any clearer - I'm finding I'm needing the rear wiper on continuous when its raining on the motorway. My last estate car only had an intermittent setting for the rear and that was always plenty so something about the aerodynamics of the volvo must direct more spray onto the rear. Is this the same for all? Does the R Design spoiler make any difference?

Yep, can't speak for the other variants, but my R-Design sucks the dirt up on the back end like nobodies business. It was only the other day I actually realised why an electric closing tailgate would be a good idea.

There’s that moment of no return when you pull it down with your right hand and can’t quite reach the handle with the other so end up touching it!

I find a hard enough pull on the inside handle is enough to make it shut completely so no need to touch the outside!

I find the rear intermittent setting on my SE is OK even in heavy rain and that's without flaps fitted. Personnally, I don't think rear flaps are going to help with the V70's aerodynamics over the tailgate. Got them fitted all round on my Vectra GSi hatchback and the rear tailgate still gets filthy within a few miles of m.way driving.

Just giving this thread a bump as my car is getting filthy! (And I saw SouthOxon has them on hs new D3.) Are mudflaps a good thing?
