No. When the soot level reaches a certain level and engine conditions are right, fuel is discharged into the exhaust system to cause burning in the DPF assembly. As mentioned, this will not happen if the engine has a fault condition (such as an engine warning due to a glowplug problem).

Also, the glow plugs are used to assist the engine to achieve higher combustion temperatures.
So a glow plug fault will contribute towards DPF regeneration issues - maybe not immediately, but over time.... Fix all known faults with the engine, then do a DPF regen
