It seems to have righted itself with a couple of good pulls from stationary.

Found an issue with a couple of brake unions. Swapped them for metric ones and all is good.

Water pump is still leaking, from the shaft this time. New one on order but I think it may pass regardless.

MOT booked for tomorrow!

Hopefully if you "casually" mention to the tester you have a new water pump on order he'll overlook the leak if it's bad and pass it anyway - given the work you've put in i'd be amazed if there were any failure points!

Let us all know how it goes!

Good fortune for the MoT test tomorrow.

It's a NO!

However, thankfully very minor. One of my indicator / sidelight units broke their clips as I went over a speedbump. That was an understandable fail.

The second item - corrosion apparently, really wound me up. Basically on the nearside I deleted a grommet hole at the end of the sill. On the offside I left the grommet hole and that has flagged up as structural. Total nonsense, and in fact I'll now have to cut into the nearside sill end and fit grommets to satisfy the tester.

Also I still have a bit of a starting problem. Starts, revs to around 2000rpm and dies. Does this a few times before running well.

I've cleaned the fuel distributor plunger - it was quite sticky. I also tested the injectors and cleaned them all until I got a nice even flow rate across all 4. Fuel delivery rate from the pump exceeds the 700ml in 30 seconds test.

I'm suspecting an air leak somewhere. Car still a little bit hesitant at higher revs, plus idle is a little bit lumpy.

The repairs will take me around an hour and the retest is tomorrow. I'm almost certain it'll get a clean sheet.

That's ridiculous!

Most testers would be able to see that you've just completed an extensive restoration and would give you a nudge and a wink and tell you to put a hole in the sill end-cap and a grommet in both. The irony is that in theory it weakens it but also with the hole open anti-corrosion gloop can be squirted inside so there's an argument for both cases.

Good luck with the retest either way!

Or in the case of my old 1984 360 to hide a multitude of sins, I hasten yo add it wasn't my doing but one of the many previous owners.
