Hi
Might be a good idea to tell people first off when they call for a quote about the postcodes you Won't take a risk on.
Saves wasting 25 mins of your staff time and my time.
Should the club be looking for a recommended insurer that covers all the UK?

Hi,

We do sometimes ask preliminary questions at quote stage in order to avoid what you have described, but asking those questions is not always conclusive. This is because insurers can change their rates and criteria frequently. The list of exclusions can also be lengthy and not always applicable. The most thorough way of quoting is to take down all of the details but we appreciate that can take longer.

Sorry that we could not help you on this occasion and thank you for trying us.

Could anyone tell me if Chris Knott Insurance is worth more than any other? I was hoping that as being with VOC, that maybe the service would be better, prices good etc.

I just got a quote that was cheaper than Tesco bank's offer of renewal. They quoted me £460

I then did a check on compare the market and got lots of quotes that were cheaper ranging from £275 upwards.

I rang back and immediately had my quote lowered to £382.99,

My question is, are they worth the extra money and why was the first quote so much higher than the second?

There is also a problem with the system where they can't send out quote document at present.

Thanks for any thoughts

Thanks for the reply, can you answer my last question? Why was the price suddenly reduced as soon as I found a lower quote, why wasn't I offered the best deal first?

And does that mean you could do better but are not offering me that deal now?

Hi,

The underwriter we have used for your quote allows us to reduce the price we can offer based on prices you have elsewhere. It's something we worked hard to negotiate so that we don't lose business from club members like you. However, there are limits to this scheme, which is why we now can't go any lower on your quote.

I am not impressed that I have to go through the work of getting quotes so that you can get me a quote that changed in 20 minutes later.

So as you are more expensive by far (by many suppliers), even after I had to push you to get me a better quote, (and bearing in mind I really was hoping you'd be the answer to my belief that all insurance companies try and scam you), why do you think I should choose you over others?

This is not trying to be confrontational, I genuinely would like to know as I really would like a company who aren't just after my money.

Hi,

It's not a scam, but that's ultimately for you to decide. If we're really the best choice for club members it would be a shame for you to have to go elsewhere. So when price is the issue we are sometimes able to react (subject to proof of better rates with another provider). If there was a cheaper price at the beginning, we would definitely have offered it to you.

If you do decide to go with us, be aware that we give part of our commission on every policy to the club in order to support them. That happens at every renewal too, so we are committed to giving back to clubs that bring business to us. Sadly, we can't get as low as your other price and we would totally understand if you went elsewhere.

I appreciate your comment about not trying to be confrontational. We are always more than willing to discuss these issues and can see that you are genuinely trying to find the best option for your insurance. We respect that.

this is where I am confused. Is it your underwriter who is only offering better prices when they find out they could lose business? Otherwise I do not understand how this better price is suddenly found and not offered in the first instance? This also gives me no confidence that a better price could not be found?

I do applaud that ethos and always try and shop more local/ethical and customer focused places. However the fact that your price, even at the new rate (which I still don't understand why it wasn't offered originally, see above) is nearly 30% over the best rate elsewhere and 10% over at least 10 other companies. i pay over the odds for lots of things but with the cost of living crisis 30% seems an awful lot of money. Especially after the very competitive deal I got on breakdown cover from yourselves.

I appreciate the responses and taking time to discuss, I just still don't understand the mechanism of suddenly reduced pricing and am trying to both educate myself and make a rational decision.

We negotiated a scheme with the underwriter where we can be flexible on price if the client obtains something cheaper and we can verify that. It is us, not the underwriter who want to insure as many club members as possible. We've committed to the club long term and it's disappointing if we can't provide the cover that we set out to. Price is clearly a factor and we adapt where we can. In your particular case, we've done as much as we can.

We're not suggesting you come with us when there is such a price difference. We fully expect you to go elsewhere but we wanted to explain how we operate and how we got to the price we offered.

Sorry if I'm not explaining it clearly but thanks for giving me the opportunity to try.
