Is there a fuse that feeds all of these items that may have failed?

Seems to be that something common to all is required

I checked the fuses yesterday and they all seemed fine, however I was expecting the fuse to appear burnt out or cracked and now Ive been told thats not always the case (i.e sometimes the fuse is gone but it still looks ok visually) so I check again tonight

You are so correct - in the old days they would have gone black but the modern card ones can be difficult to confirm. Generally I find that holding the card up to the light (sky) and looking through will let you see if the fuse is still intact. I ave had to use a multimeter on some of the darker colours as I haven't been able to work out if they are OK or not

its possible just one of these things is faulty and is affecting the others.the number of things that are electronically joined so to speak is very high.the modern 4x4 is a very complicated animal.the radio for instance affects a number of other items.also the removal of fuses to check them can cause the SRS warning light to come on.all very annoying.

Doesn't sound good I'm afraid. I had similar problem last year, where the radio & park sensors packed in (interior lights still worked though).

Solution for me was a new Electronic Control MOdule, which costs about £750!

Sorry! Hope it isn't for you!

I have taken it to the garage and they said it needs a new head unit (is that the same thing?)

Might be worth clarifying which part they are replacing, as I don't imagine that a faulty "head" unit would cause park sensors & lights to stop working.

check fuse 5 in the CEM which is above the panel over your right foot .. ( upper of the two long rows third along from the left on upper row)that feeds the whole hi-fi system ... if you want to ge deeper remove the centre radio panel and see if there is a live feed on the purple wire feeding the display itself ...

there is no such thing as a head unit on an XC90 ,
you have a ICM ( the control unit and display ) an AUD ( the amplifier ) the mmm ( the cd player ) the ATM ( aerial and radio tuner ) all linked with fibre optics ..

I would get a thorough report on what isnt working and why before you go ahead ..
