Default 1800E door dismantling

Hi all,

Just bought a LHD '71 from California, but South Australia requires me to fit wing mirrors on both sides for registration. I've got some mirrors coming in the post, but when I sat down to take the door apart, I got to the stage where I ran out of screws to take out, and hesitated at using force as she's in mint condition and I don't want to break anything.

Could anyone who's pulled a door apart offer me any guidance?

Cheers,

Buddy.

So have you looked under the rubber rings around the door lever and window winder?
Also if your taking the guts out completey you need a torch to look inside to get some sneeky ones hiddin in the bottom that are really buried and difficult to see.
Once they are all undone they will slide around a fair bit and come out with a little manipulation and not too much force.
(principle is they were not forced in and you should not need to force them out - I seem you are operating on this principle)
However that said mine were an interference fit in places.
If you have the old scissor mechanism of window actuator, then this is nasty.
The later one is really elegant and works much more smoothly.
(in my opinion)
Still you would have to get hold of some and thats a different matter.

Thanks very much for your help b20e. I'll have another go over the weekend removing the one original wing mirror make a template for the holes for the new mirrors.

I'm always hesitant to use force like you said. She was put together Jan '71 so I should have the new window mech.

Cheers,

Buddy.
