I think that's known as a 'receiver' hitch.

Is there any manufacturer details on the bracket itself?

Default Home made?

Looks like a home made item, the welding holding the bracket for the lighting socket does not look up to much either, perhaps some one has made it for a cycle carrier?

All towing brackets need to be type approved i think?

Looks a bit Heath Robinson to me, unless you know the manufacturer I would remove it.

thanks for the replys .at first i thought it was a cycle carrier but on looking underneath it is securly fastened to the chassis in 4 points and looks very strong.its only for a small trailer so id prefer to get it working for free unless you know of a cheap replacement.

I would be very wary about using this bracket to tow even a small trailer. It may be cheaper in the short term to fix some sort of tow ball but in the long run it could be an expensive way to go. Much better to ring around the towbar suppliers in your area and get a quote for a new one. As the electrics already appear to be fitted it should not cost too much to replace.

Cool

That's really different.

Never seen anything like it, and I too reckon that it's home made.

Yes, you are right, tow bars have to be type approved for towing. You could get into an awful lot of trouble if something came loose from this, I reckon.

I agree 100% with Clan. Bin it. Either that, or fit a big spike to it, and brake hard in front of tailgating BMW's.
