Volvo Car Corp. is Dropping R-line Cars
This will be sad it it does indeed happen, but hopefully if they do decide to bring back "R" cars in the future, they will not go down the same route of a marketing disaster which happened with the current ones.

Thanks for the links!
I guess you could look at it two ways, Pros, if there are no more R's to be produced it makes the existing models still rarer. Cons, My feeling on the R models is they were never designed to beat Audi and BMW hence the reason they sold in such few numbers. Patrick

pity cause R cars give volvo some credibilty into what they can really do if they want to. Do you think Ford wants to control the performance car sector? Cant have both volvo and ford fighting for the same potential customers.
Anyway thanks for the link. Interesting both links turned up at another volvo forum. Time stamp shows everything though. VOC rocks! cheers |

Well being that Ford is struggling with its profits Volvo might be one of its many brands due to be sold off. They have already parted ways with Aston Martin and they have just started turning the buisness into a profitable one. So if the worst happens who knows who will take over and where they will choose to steer the company

Well if you all remember there was at least a 3 year gap between the last Classic V70R with the MY 2000, and the new shape S60/V70 Rs in 2003.
May not be the end.... Oli

Don't bet on it.
As Patrick said, I don't think these cars were ever really designed to take sales from Audi or BMW as they were just not powerful enough or fast enough to give them any real cause for concern. I think Volvo didn't want to upset too many of their core customers either, and I think the 'pulling of the plug' proves their point. As my service manager once said to me when I asked him why Volvo don't have their own in house tuning arm, "Volvo do things their way. What they end up with, is what you get. No changes can be officially made to the product. If it is good enough for Volvo, it is good enough for you". Personally I think that is a very short sighted attitude if you want to attract performance enthusiasts as they claimed initially. Hopefully they will bring them back at some point, but I think Ford wants that market. Later. |

I agree with all of the above. It will be a great shame not to have any 'R' cars although I read something about a C30R & or s40R, neither of which would fulfill my needs if they unrealisically made it to market. The new T6 isn't exclusive enough for me, for me it's something special to see an 850R or S60R etc T5's are ok but just have that little extra missing. I'm keeping my car untill it's 3rd birthday so I guess in just under 2 years time something else will be on the menu.
maybe this? http://www.cnl24.co.uk/m5/M5rear.jpg
