Default Latest on ETM NHTSA recall

I'm not sure if this is the latest report on the possible NHTSA recall investigation but here is their official report on their web site.

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...h&summary=true

I just called the South African Volvo customer care line and they said that ETM is the customers responsability and we even have to pay for a cleaning. They don't see the potential safety risk. They obviously don't drive in South AFrica. they don't realize that a stranded car is a victims car.

Many thanks for that post Notam.

Sounds like head in the sand action from Volvo SA. I suggest you contact Volvo HQ directly, telling them you know of the recall agreed for software upgrade and throttle/etm clean in UK, US and Australia (let alone what they are probably doing in their home market)

I think you've a new shape V70. Does it fall into the list on your link?

Also, the link didn't say what the recall involved. Did you find a link to that too?

My V70 is a 2001 and i can tell you it is acting up, especially when manouvering slowly in parking lots and driveway. I never know if i'm going to get a surge of power or nothing at all.

I believe there is no reference to the type of recall because the NHTSA is still building a case for a proper recall. Volvo introduced the extended warranty and 'cleaning' to try to buy credibility and stop the investigation. As you can see by the attached documents at the bottom of this web site, the NHTSA has plenty of evidence. I believe it is just a matter of time...for the yanks.
