Tutorial -- fitting rear parking sensors
Hello troops.
Just manged to fit a rear parking sensors. They are the ebay sensors so will se how long they will survive. Pretty straight forward installation for medium skilled people. Tools?? Hmm... bit of common sense and wiring diagram for connecting sensors to work when reverse is engaged. Need: flat screwdriver torx T25 electrical tape and... brainz Starting with removing bumper Instruction can be found on volvo website so no need to describe it. When You get bumper off look for markings on the inside to spot where OEM sensors going in.There is set of 4 marks and you can use them as a guide. My car is fitted with towbar so had to use a bit of brains and move the sensors bit outward so it won't pick towbar. Drill a hole with hole saw provided with kit. Next feed wires through holes. My sensors was marked as "A" to "D" Also was marked "up" "A" and "B" are for passenger side and "C" and "D" for driver side. After all sensors was secured in their places it's time to feed cables to inside of the boot. As I have towbar I just used grommet already with cables for it. I did drilled holes inside bumper to feed cable ties to secure wires. Outside: Inside: After I fed cables through grommet I put bumper back on. It' an exact reversal of removing so no need to explain. With bumper fitted and secured there is time to connect and hide all the cables. The main unit You can put anywhere. Mine is fitted aside drivers rear light clusted beside fuelcap release. Closer for me as other side have control box for towbar electrics. Cable tie sensors wires to already existing wiring. Stop and think. There is two ways to connect module. Depending on preferences. Either way it works. Firstly as constant power supply so need power and earth. Not recommended as even in traffic sensors will go off. Other way and more preferred is to connect module to Your reverse lights. For me again a driver side light cluster. Need to find a signal wire which will trigger reverse light and give power to control module. I found it by removing cluster and disconnecting plug. Looking at reverse bulb look at cirquit board and find relevant path. (no multimeter. ) For me path went to connector no2 on the plug which i think will be a grey cable. Double check with wiring diagrams. Works. Connect earth to one of the bolts situated on the rear side of the boot Double check if it's triggering signal to control module. It did at first time for me so wires was correct. I did double and triple checked everything is working before tiding the cables out. Rough idea how it's connected. Wide plug goes to display with built in beeper. Red and black cable is Your power supply and four slim plugs goes to sensors. Sensors cables hid ideally under boot pannel covering lock release. Nearly there. Feed the rest of the cables under panels in the boot. Last but not least. The display. Fit it to You convenience. Mine is on top of my radio panel and fir perfect. Used double sided piece of sticker (supplied with kit) and for now works ok. cable went behind glovebox and then under the side panels for passenger side. Under rear seats and then straigh into boot. Now the last test before putting everything back together. Reversed car to my neighbours van: And looked at display: Now it's working You can put everything together and enjoy You hard work. Hope this will help existing and future members to fit aftermarket sensors to their beloved Volvos. If you have any questions just ask in here or on PM... |

Check pricelist for accessories. I think it's around £400 for rear with programming. But not sure.

Nice job! One question. When connected were there any issues with the car display/messages, or a simple plug and play?

I had no issues. When I got a first set it was blowing fuses but sent away and got new one. No problems at all. Its easy enough even for non skilled amateur mechanic. Everything fits perfect and job is straight forward. It took with bumper off the car about 1.5 - 2 hours. So good. That is my best spent £11.99 so far.
