Default Looking to buy

Looking at buying an 850 in the next week or so, going to try and get to have a look at it this weekend need to arrange it with the guy at work who i may buy it from.

From what he has told me its the 850 2.3ltr 10 valve Auto Saloon around a N plate.

What should i look out for regarding problems. He did say that the ABS light was on, is this an easy problem to cure or cost loads?

Cheers in advance for advice given.

It will without doubt be the ABS module that is damaged.
There is a guide on how to fix it here on the forum - search for it.
If it went for MOT with the ABS light on the dash it will fail.
An unscrupulous person would remove the bulb from the dash.
If the ABS is not working it will just work like a car without ABS, as all cars did 15 years ago and beyond.
Whatever your mate tells you it isn't "just a sensor or something"

hi, first, if it is a 10v, then it is not a 2.3ltr.

second, you cannot remove the bulb, as it is a check on the MOT that the ABS light comes on with ignition then goes off after starting. removing the bulb will also cause an MOT failure. when i got mine , the previous owner had gone to great extremes to rig the light to match the oil pressure light which has the same charactoristics, to fool the MOT. Needless to say , i simply fixed the ABS and re-fixed the bulb.

TBH this 850 is coming fairly cheap as i dont have a lot of cash atm and the guy is willing to take my knackered old scenic in p/x as he deals in cars part time so takes a load of my plate.

not seen him today oh the joys of being a lorry driver lol.

price he quoted me is £350 and my banged up old P reg scenic diesel and he'll tax the 850 for me.

if it doesnt go through i'll just keep saving the pennies and see what i can find lol

i bought my 850 a few weeks ago and mine needed a engine top mount( this is like an steady bar over the top of the engine ) check its not split. if when you change gear it feel a bit jerky chances are it is. ( my cars a manual). it cost me £15 for the bush and it was a bit of a pain to fit. also check the engine management light is not on. this is a green triangle with a funny little symbol in it.when i bought my car it was on and i didnt know what it was.these were the main problems on my car that are different to other makes i have had.im sure the other forum users will tell you of other problems.

Cheers for that Chris.

Gonna get my brother in law to sort this for me as i'm a bit club handed when it comes to soldering lol, he does it day in day out for a living so is spot on

Looking forward to getting the car as it will be a step up from what i have now and also a step up from the 340 i owned previously
