Default ABL Xenons and continental driving

Ref Active Xenon headlamps
Page 54 of the owners manual-

'Shifting headlamp pattern for right/left-hand traffic.
Hold the button depressed for at least 5 seconds.....'

Anyone had any success with this?
I've tried it but no message displayed.

Yep - I do this every time I go to Spain (and back again in UK - obv.)

Ignition on (I think…) and press and hold the button.

Changing to euro setting should give the message "Headlights set for RH Traffic".

Do it in the dark with lights shining on a wall etc, and you should/will see the beams move over.

Cheers

I'm getting no message, engine running, at a standstill. I'll see later if they've changed, but I'm doubtful.

Ingnition on 2, engine not running and hold button for 5 seconds.
Message will appear.
If you see the beam move depends on the outpost of the headlights, mostly the reflector inside the projector is worn/burn/faded….
Can be refurbished…

Nope, definitely not working for me.
No idea if it is connected with this fault, but the switch illumination doesn't work either (the little green light and on/off selection does though)....

Hi, daft question ... do you actually have ABL lights?

A previous post stated your car was a 2006 with HID xenons .... is it still the same car (your sig does not identify which XC90 you have?)

If so you wont have ABL, even if retro fitted light units are present as most of the gubbins will not be there to make it work, and pound to a penny it will need a software download/reconfiguration to make them work even if all the components are present?

Just a thought

Don't know whether the motors that make the ABL work are the same as those that change the headlight aim for Euro driving (probably??) - but - when ABL is selected, do the beams move with the steering?

In any case, if neither lamp moves for RH Traffic, the problem is likely to be something in common, starting with the switch.

Cheers

That was my old one. I now have a 2011 exec and it certainly does have ABL as they went inactive when the steering angle sensor failed, and are working again now.

Yes, I'm thinking switch, although as previously stated, it works in switching them off and on....
Any guide as to how to get that switch panel out of the dash?

The switch works on canbus, so before you replace it (if you go down that route,) just move the switch to a different location, as its the switch thats coded not its position on the mounting frame.
If it works in a different position, its at least a step for a hint that it may not be the switch.
