Default XC90 and Alpine INE W928R

Hi,

bought second hand 2008 XC90 without navigation and telephone and recently
installed Alpine INE W928R navigation system.
Guys in shop done terrible job, lost my rear parking sensor, steering command for audio control are not connected, audio system is down graded, had premium sound quality.....horror.
Also have installed rear view camera and wondering why there is not audio warning when parking.
If you have done something like that please share your experience..

I can't help with your problems but I have recently purchased a 2010 XC90 and enquired about the fitting of a new Alpine unit which would have given me digital radio, telephone bluetooth support and a navigation system.

Talking to the guys about the installation and it became obvious that it was quite a difficult job to do requiring many components to integrate the new system into that fitted to the XC90. The XC90 uses fibre optics as a connection between components as I understand it and 'digital to fibre' adapters would need to be added to enable connection. I decided it was not a viable option and opted instead for the Volvo portable navigation unit which includes bluetooth for my phone.

Im sorry I can't be of any help but thought you might like to know of some research I did. Incidentally, the audio workshop had done several installation for me in the past but not on volvo vehicles.

Thanks mate

Alpine web page for INE W928R has under compatible vehicle Volvo XC90, so there should not be a problem. If shop technician does not what to do just call Alpine and clear the problem.
I talk yesterday with shop manager and he told me that they are awaiting answer from Alpine regarding unsolved issues˙( radio, rear parking sensor, steering comands for audio sistem).
BTW I will post a photo, it looks amazing....

i looked into these systems for my 2006 xc90. Whilst the parking sensors and steering wheel controls should work the xc90, i was quoted around £150 more for each additional module (1 for the parking sensors & 1 for the steering wheel controls). The head unit itself cost around £500, but with these additional modules to make it fully functioning it would have taken the parts bill to around £800-850, so i backed out of it.

Oh, it i was pioneer i nearly bought- no alpine - so i wonder if its a similar system. i can't imagine alpine would build the unit specifically for the electrical spec of a volvo/xc90, so i expect they'd also need to fit the car specific modules to make them all work.

Had a Pioneer unit fitted at Easter this year, it needs the 'modules' to allow the steering controls and parking sensors to work. Cost extra, but I wouldn't be without them.

The 6" display etc is definitely what the '90 needed, the stock stereo is (IMHO) a bit of a joke for this type of car.
