Hi,

Should I consider buying XC90 with a previous MOT advisories having following,

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Front Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii))
Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
under trays fitted unable to fully inspect
emissions to low to register.

Thanks in advance.

xc90 is a big heavy automatic car so wear on brake component is quite common . . emission to low to register? never heard any thing like that before .

The brake disc advisories are probably down to corrosion if the car has been stood - maybe budget £300 for new discs and pads.

Rear brake pads - maybe another £100.

Under trays are standard, no issues there, emissions too low - that's a compliment!

Yes. You can calculate exactly what cost you're in for and have a discussion with the seller. Who's likely to be able to sell anyway in the current climate, so don't cut your nose off and so on

Thats very common. All of mine have received that note on the ticket every year.

The D5 is an inherently extremely clean engine in terms of particulates, and provided its well seviced and not regularly driven for short journeys they produce so little in the way of smoke emissions that its quite normal for them to not even trigger the meter when the smoke test is conducted.

^^^^^ That.

Had a 2008 XC70 a few years ago, took it into my usual garage for MOT and the chap testing thought the machine was broken. It's common for D5's not to register, it's uncommon amongst other manufacturers.... also testament to Volvo's solid DPF systems.

I must say I think that people need to excercise a lot of caution reviewing MOT history. Those who know me know my car is pampered. I change engine oil every 6k, air filters and fuel filters well ahead of schedule and such like.

The auto gear box oil is changed and the AOC fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid etc etc etc, the list goes on.

Needless to say over my ownership from 65k to 120k I have never had a breakdown and the only failure I have had is a turbo seal which was repaired for £70 (I didn’t want to raise the vehicle etc when the cost was so low for someone with a lift).

Pretty much every time I take the car in it gets multiple advisories! In my ownership (around 5-6 years) it has never failed an MOT but does always get advisories.

I look at bashed up E38 and E39 BMWs and often the trader says ‘passed mot straight away with no advisories’ and that always arises my suspicions…

Emissions too low is nothing special to volvo. It happens to all brands of cars. The examiners log it as it looks like they never carried out a smoke test.
The tax band your car is in will tell you how good your manufacturer has kept emissions down.

Its nothing specual to Volvo. Yet is extremely common on a D5.

The tax band on your car has no relation relation to pariculalate or smoke emissions,
