Power Failure
I have a 1998 V40 2.0i Estate Automatic- 60000 miles
Recently the alternator belt broke. I had this replaced along with one of the pulleys that turn it as that was corroded in and not turning. To do this my mechanic said he had to lower the engine and move the Power steering module. Since then the accelerator has not "felt right" and also the brakes seem to be less smoove and there is a definite pull coming from the drivers side of the car. . Driving does not seem smooth on full wheel turn while accelerating too. Also when sitting in traffic, stationary etc the car appears to be about to stall although it is an automatic. About 2/3 weeks after the work was done and a 200 mile journey and generally using the car about town I had a massive power loss - my foot was full down on the accelerator and doing a max of 20mph, no automatic gear changes, no warning lights, car temp is slightly above mid-point but nothing unusual. This has occurred after an hour long journey, when trying to accelerate up very steep hills (twice), and after stop-starting the car a few times in a short period. Have popped the bonnet and the engine seems very hot & seems to be shaking more than it should and the whole exhaust is also vibrating more than it should. A period of rest and power returns to normal although the pedals still have problems as described above. Not sure if this is a problem related to the work on the belt or a new unrelated problem. Any advice gratefully received, thanks x |
