I have just purchased a V50 1.6D Drive and have just done 3.000 Km in a month.
I mainly found it a very comfortable car, except for some wind noise coming from driver's window. The engine is not so powerful, but it's very pleasant in every situation; also the fuel consumption is quite good (19 Km/l using it on motorway at 130 Km/h). P.s. Sorry for my bad english |

I have driven the V50 1.6D Drive and I must say, the engine is very impressive. On paper it is not very quick, but in real life, it actually is. Overtaking is a breeze and fuel economy amazing for such a big car. Get the start/stop and you save even more.
Go for it!

Nice car, I have one since early this summer. Driven smoothly in the plains, you should be able to reach the advertised MPG. The car is quiet and comfortable and handles well. The engine is more than powerful enough for the car, unless you want brisk acceleration from 160 kph at German motorways. The boot is smallish compared to some other estate or hatchback cars. What I miss is a ski-latch in the middle of the back seat.

I'm amazed they haven't fixed that yet, Volvo has been aware of this problem since 2004 and it affects S40/V50 and C30 models, yet i see they still haven't found a soultion.

If it makes anyone feel any better I had a SEAT that had major wing mirror noise and this was well known by them as well. The Volvo is nothing in comparison. When a problem is well known however it does seem odd that these things are not addressed

One of the problems is the glass is too thin , remember when glass was 6mm thick? Laminated side glass helps a lot in this respect in the Larger V70 / S 80 cars
