Yet another code reader question
I've searched various OBD sites and this forum and am still not sure about the technical principles of code reading. I have a V70 Tdi year 2000 (old shape, Audi engine). I believe this is not OBD2 compliant (but has an ISO interface) and requires Volvo VCT2000 tool linked to Vadis. Can anyone answer the following:
1. What does a VCT2000 actually do (apart from link the car to a computer) e.g. has it internal firmware and, if so, what does it do? 2. Can I use an ISO to serial hardware interface (e.g. from the "Planetfall" site) to link the car to Vadis (which I possess) or is there more to it? 3. Any other suggestions, apart from pay main dealer megabucks for 10 minutes work (to read/reset codes I mean). There must be enough of us Tdi enthusiasts to sort something out here. I would much appreciate any informed replies. Regards.

RE: Yet another code reader question
Thanks for that. It just seems depressing that I can't diagnose fault codes myself. Do you happen to know what "standard" the Tdi uses?

RE: Yet another code reader question
It's ISO, but using Volvo protocol.
As the system is Bosch, a diesel specialist with Bosch diagnostic equipment should be able to access it. |

RE: Yet another code reader question
The only Volvos that are OBDII compliant are basically those that were also sold in the US/Canada. These are the petrol 850 & 900 series.
Note the 10v Petrol 850 (Fenix 5.1) and some 900 models were not sold in the US. As the diesels were not sold there either they were not made OBDII compliant. I'm not sure there was ever a requirement for diesels to comply with OBDII in the US anyway. EOBD (Basically european OBDII) did not become mandatory in the EU for diesels until 2003. CAN is a permitted data layer for EOBD. |
